More Fatal Accidents on Rural Nebraska Roads

(KTNC) - As of May 21st, 74 people have been killed on Nebraska roadways. That is one more than last year during the same time frame but 13 more compared to 2010 through 2013. Triple-A Nebraska spokesperson Rose White says there has been a huge spike in the number of fatal car accidents in rural areas.
She says accident deaths in urban areas are down 22% compared to this time last year, but rural highway deaths are up 9% compared to a year ago.
White says from January 1st through May 20th, 24 people have died on county roads. That is an increase of 71% over the previous year. Statistics show from 1993 through 2012, 74% of those who died in car accidents in Nebraska were not wearing a seat belt.
