(KAIR)--The Atchison County Commission has approved an agreement with Hamm Inc regarding the maintenance of a road leading to a new quarry in the county.
Commission Chair Jeff Schuele says McPherson road is considered the main truck route for the quarry. He says the quarry will be responsible for maintaining the chip and seal portion of the road for a minimum of two years. That also includes an agreement to expand the road to a width of twenty-two feet and to add any additional culverts or rock bases to the road. These improvements would enable the road to sustain the heavy semi truck traffic it is expected to handle regularly.
Schuele adds that the quarry has also agreed to supply the county with any needed rock they may need to maintain the road.
