Davis Aims To Bring Bipartisan Approach To Governor's Office

Paul Davis

(KAIR)-- Kansas lone Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Paul Davis says that he has developed a reputation of bringing Democrats and Republicans together during his twelve years representing the state's 46th district in the Kansas House, and he wants to bring that reputation to the Governor's office.

Davis made that statement during a visit to Atchison Friday afternoon, making stops at the Atchison Hospital, Atchison Middle School, Benedictine College, the Atchison Area Chamber of Commerce, and Riverfront Park before ending with with a meet and greet session in the banquet room of Paolucci's restaurant.

Davis says among the issues he's focused on is the controversy surrounding education funding. Davis says it should have never reached the point to where the State Supreme Court had to step in. He says that two years ago, he thought that state legislators had a good opportunity to get in front of this latest lawsuit. He had suggested that they implement a multi year plan to try and restore funding to schools.

Davis says that the lack of job growth in the state has him concerned. He says “we are lagging behind our surrounding states, including Missouri, in terms of economic growth...what we need to do is work with individual communities and not have a one size fits all approach, and understand that different regions and different communities in the state have different strengths, and different opportunities to grow their economies”.

Davis also wants to work to find a viable solution to the state's water problem. He says that he wants to work with community leaders, particularly in the western part of the state, as well as with the agricultural and ranching communities to be able to craft some common sense solutions.

Davis, and running mate Jill Docking are, so far, running unopposed in the August 5th primary election, and will join Libertarian Keen Umbehr and his son Joshua in opposing Governor Sam Brownback in the November 4th general election. Brownback is being challenged by fellow party members Jennifer Winn and Ethan McCord in the primary election.
