(KTNC)-- Richardson County Sheriff Randy Houser says a Nebraska State Patrol helicopter helped search teams looking for the driver and car involved in the shooting of Richardson County Deputy Sheriff Josh Nincehelser. The shooting occurred about 2 a-m Monday morning.

Four Nebraska State Patrol officers also helped with the ground search.

Sheriff Houser tells MSC News they are investigating a lead in the case, but currently there is no other news.

Deputy Nincehelser was shot in the upper left arm on 717 Road approximately a quarter mile west of Highway 75. While out on patrol Deputy Nincehelser noticed a car stopped on 717 Road and stopped to see if the driver needed assistance. Sheriff Houser said the driver opened fire with a .40 caliber handgun.

One shot hit Deputy Nincehelser and at least two bullets hit his patrol pickup. Nincehelser was able to return shots before the vehicle fled north. The Deputy gave chase, but stopped his pursuit when he realized he had been shot.

The suspect is considered extremely dangerous.  The car authorities are seeking is a silver or tan Dodge Neon.  Anyone with information should contact the Richardson County Sheriff’s Office at 402-245-2479 or the Nebraska State Patrol.

Deputy Nincehelser was transported by the Humboldt Ambulance Squad to the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn and then transferred on to a Lincoln hospital for treatment of the gunshot wound to his arm.
