(KNZA)--A state of local disaster emergency was proclaimed for Brown County following last week’s tornado that hit the southern portion of the county.
Brown County Commission Chairman Keith Olsen said at Monday's County Commission meeting that he signed a resolution last Wednesday proclaiming the local disaster emergency at the urging of County Emergency Preparedness Director Randy Linck.
Olsen says the resolution was sent to the Kansas Division of Emergency Management, and makes it possible for the county to request state assistance to help with cleanup efforts, if needed.
The National Weather Service says an EF1 tornado, with an estimated peak wind of 100 miles an hour, touched down late last Tuesday night about 1.5 miles east of Willis and traveled about 2.5 miles to north of Everest. Damage was reported to several farmsteads in the Everest area.
No injuries were reported.
