Mound City Aldermen Approve Budget
06/13/2014

(KTNC)-- Mound City Aldermen approved the budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1 this week. Aldermen unanimously approved both the first and final readings of the budget Tuesday night.
The budget includes a three-percent salary increase for full-time city employees. It also suspends reimbursement for inter-fund loans from the Capital Improvement Fund in order to allocate $75,000 for street maintenance.
The council also approved a settlement between Mound City and Century Link. The action settles claims between the city and Century Link involving damage to city property in the area of 8th and Nebraska Street that was discovered in April.
In other business, the council accepted the bid of $1,434 from Knapheide for side rails and a tailgate for the city’s 2013 Dodge one-ton truck.
Police Chief John Panning told the council that the police officer position is still open. Panning said he’s completed a background check on one applicant and has two other applications outstanding.
Aldermen approved changes to pool fees that were set last month. Following the recommendation of the pool manager, the council eliminated the 25-swim punch card and changed admission prices so that children age three and under are admitted into the pool free. Before the change, children age four and younger were admitted free.
And the council agreed to draft an ordinance to increase the pay for the Mayor from $100 to $150 per month and for Aldermen from $75 to $100 per regular meeting. Council pay for special meetings would remain at $50. The increases will take effect after the next election for each office.
