(KAIR)--Atchison officials have blocked the rail crossing at the intersection of Main Street and Fourth Street due to a train derailment that took place Friday afternoon.
Police Chief Mike Wilson says the derailment took place shortly before 4:00, with several cars derailing, but none actually leaving the tracks. No injuries have been reported.
Officials are asking motorists to avoid the intersection while railroad crews work to place the cars back on the tracks correctly.
Wilson says the intersection could be closed for a few hours.
