(KLZA)-- Independent U.S. Senate candidate Todd Watson from Lincoln spent part of last week making a swing through Southeast Nebraska meeting with voters and gathering signatures to have his named placed on the ballot in November.
Watson has a Masters degree in professional accounting and still has his CPA license. He currently owns two businesses employing over 60 people.
During a stop in Falls City Watson said America needs to return to following what is in the Constitution and said he wants to see America get back to basics where everyone has an equal chance to do well.
Like many candidates seeking office, Watson says he is against “Obamacare.” He said he would attack the Republican Party’s special interests in healthcare. He says competition is needed in healthcare and special interest laws need to be done away with.
Running as an Independent is a tough road for a candidate. Watson says he has no other political motivations other than to help people and make a better future for his children. He said as an Independent there won’t be anyone pushing him up the political ladder to become chairman of a committee.
The candidate noted he had secured the 4,000 petition signatures needed to get his name on the ballot by the time of the May primary election but wants to have plenty of cushion when the signatures are turned in for verification.
