(KAIR)--Washburn University is mourning the death of head baseball coach Steven Anson, who was killed in a tree trimming accident.

According to reports from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, first responders were called to the 3200 block of 27th Street in Rural Grantville just after 3:00 Sunday afternoon for a reported traumatic injury involving tree trimming.  Upon arrival, Anson was found laying on the ground, unconscious with a large tree branch on top of him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anson left home earlier in the day to trim trees on the residential property. A family member became concerned when they did not hear the chainsaw running for a period of time, and went to check on him.

Anson won over 800 games in 35 seasons as Head Coach.
