Competency Evaluation Sought in Brown Co Sex Case

(KNZA)--The case against a 26-year-old rural Horton man facing sex charges has been placed on hold, after a motion for a competency evaluation is filed.

A preliminary hearing for Shandon Hoobler had been set for Wednesday in a Brown County courtroom.  Hoobler is facing one count each of electronic solicitation of a child less than 14-years-old and sexual exploitation of a child.

A hearing on the motion filed by Hoobler’s court-appointed attorney, Andy Delaney of Hiawatha, has been is set for July 18th before District Judge Jim Patton.

Hoobler was arrested in May following an investigation by the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.

Brown County Attorney Kevin Hill said the alleged offenses took place between January 1st and May 16th with a victim who resides in Brown County.

Hoobler remains in the Brown County Jail on one million dollars bond.
