Escaped Lansing Inmate Recaptured
07/07/2014

(KAIR)--A Lansing Correctional Facility inmate who walked away from a work detail Monday morning has been recaptured.

According to Kansas Department of Corrections Spokesman Jeremy Barclay, 52-year-old Ronald Emons was apprehended in an area just outside of Fort Leavenworth around 4:15 Monday afternoon.

Barclay says that Emons has been returned to a secure holding area at the Lansing Facility pending an investigation into the incident.

Emons had gone out with an inmate work crew to the water reservoir on K-5 Highway by the prison's east unit at 6:00 Monday morning. At approximately 10:40, staff realized that he had gone missing.

A judge sentenced Emons in July 2011 to probation for attempted indecent liberties with a 14- to 16-year-old child. He has been sent to Lansing twice for violating the terms of his probation.
