(KAIR)--Kansas First Lady Mary Brownback is planning a visit to Leavenworth as part of the effort to encourage children to read during the summer.
Brownback is visiting Leavenworth Elementary School Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 to serve ice cream to the Leavenworth SummerBoost campers. She will be fulfilling her husband's promise to reward the campers with ice cream if they continue to read through the summer.
SummerBoost is part of the Kansas Reading Roadmap program, a state initiative that focuses on improving student’s reading proficiency.
