07/21/2014

(KAIR)--Unemployment was up in area northeast Kansas counties in June.
That’s according to a report released Friday by the Kansas Department of Labor.
Atchison County had the highest unemployment rate at six percent while Nemaha County had the lowest at 3.1 percent.
Elsewhere, Brown County’s jobless rate in June stood at 4.1 percent; Doniphan, 5.5 percent; Jackson, 5.6 percent; Jefferson, 5.5 percent; Leavenworth, 5.7 percent; Marshall, 3.3 percent; and Pottawatomie, 4.7 percent.
All the figures were up from May, but down from June 2013.
Kansas saw its unemployment rate inch up to 4.9 percent in June, but also experienced modest, over-the-year growth in private-sector jobs.
The state Department of Labor says the seasonally adjusted jobless rate rose from 4.8 percent in May.  However, June’s figure still was significantly better than the 5.6 percent recorded in June 2013.
