(KNZA)--Doniphan County voters will decided during Tuesday’s primary election whether the countywide one-percent sales tax should be renewed for another 5 year period.
The sales tax has been in place since 1992.
If approved, revenue from the sales tax would be used to finance capital improvement projects, road improvements, to update and modify the countywide 911 emergency system and for property tax relief.
Doniphan County currently collects about $400,000 a year in sales tax. The cities of Denton, Elwood, Highland, Leona, Severance, Troy, Wathena and White Cloud receive a portion of the proceeds.
If approved by voters, the sales tax renewal would take effect October 1st, 2015.
