Former Area Legislator Sentencing Postponed

Trent LeDoux

(KNZA)--Sentencing for a former area Kansas legislator convicted on a bank fraud charge has been postponed until next month.
A spokesman for U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom says Holton resident Trent LeDoux, who had been scheduled to be sentenced this week in U.S. District Court in Topeka, is now scheduled for sentencing September 15th.
LeDoux pleaded guilty in May to one count of bank fraud.
LeDoux admitted defrauding Farmers and Merchants Bank in Colby out of more than $465,000.  Prosecutors say he deposited some of the money into his campaign account.
In the plea, LeDoux admitted he falsely told the bank he would use money from three loans to buy cattle, which would be collateral for the loans.  He used some of the money to pay off existing debts and used some for his campaign.
LeDoux faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in federal prison and fine up to $1 million.
He served as a Republican member of the Kansas House, representing District 50, from June 2011 to 2013.
