(KNZA)--Unemployment was up in most area northeast Kansas counties in July, but down from one year ago.
According to figures released Monday by the Kansas Department of Labor, Doniphan County was the only county that didn’t see an increase in its unemployment rate in July, with a jobless rate of 5.3 percent.
Atchison County had the highest unemployment rate among area counties at 7.1 percent, while Nemaha County had the lowest at 3.2 percent.
Elsewhere, Brown County’s unemployment rate in July stood at 4.3 percent; Jackson, 6 percent; Jefferson, 5.8 percent; Leavenworth, 5.8 percent; Marshall, 3.6 percent and Pottawatomie, 5 percent.
Statewide, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 4.9 percent in July from 4.8 percent in June. The July figure was down from 5.6 percent in the same month last year.
