(KTNC)--The City of Falls City has reached agreement with the Village of Rulo and Rural Water District Number 2 on new wholesale water purchase contracts.
Falls City Utility Superintendent Alan Romine explained that the Rural Water District and Village of Rulo are wholesale water customers of the water department, but the contracts have run out. He said the Rural Water District has three contracts, one of which has expired, and the new agreement would replace all three of the old contracts.
Romine says they’ve negotiated new rates, but the contracts are nearly the same as the previous ones with a few changes. The contract with the Rural Water District is for 10-years, renewing annually after that.
Romine says he added a limit to the amount of water Falls City would sell to the Village of Rulo, capping the amount at 80,000 gallons per day. Romine noted that amount is two-to-three times more than Rulo now uses.
The City Council approved both contracts Monday night.
The City Council also approved the first reading of an ordinance to set the water rates effective October 1.
The rate includes a monthly service charge based on the size of the meter and a usage rate charged per 100-cubic feet of water used each month. The usage rate is $3.09 for residential, commercial and industrial customers and for customers of Rural Water District 2 from 21st Street.
The usage rate is $2.63 for the Village of Rulo and Rural Water District 2 customers from the Water Treatment Plant.
The monthly service charge for customers with a meter size of one-inch or less is $7.
