(KAIR)--Atchison County officials are in the process of applying for a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation to fund the improvement of a not yet selected bridge.
Commission Chair Jeff Schuele says the local bridge grant is a new program from KDOT that would either replace, or completely refurbish, one bridge in the county.
Commissioners on Tuesday granted permission to Road and Bridge Superintendent Matt Dorssom to look at approximately half a dozen bridges that would benefit from the grant. One will ultimately be selected from that list.
Schuele says the grant application process has just started, and KDOT is expected to make a final decision by the end of the year.
