(KNZA)-- The path has been cleared for the establishment of an animal clinic at the site of a former truck plaza on the south edge of Hiawatha.
The Hiawatha City Commission this week approved an ordinance rezoning the property located at the junction of Highways 73 and 36 from business to agricultural.
The city Planning Commission unanimously recommended approval of the zoning change. They also granted a conditional use for the property to allow a mixed animal veterinary practice at the location.
Local veterinarian Dr. Calvin Binns requested the zoning change and conditional use permit.
Binns said after looking around at several locations, he felt the property was the best location for an animal clinic.
City Administrator Mike Nichols says a purchase agreement is in place for the property.
