(KMZA)--United States Senator Jerry Moran visited the local area Tuesday, stopping in Seneca for a tour of the Nemaha Valley Community Hospital. “Access to affordable healthcare continues to be a huge issue for us,” Moran tells MSC News. “What happens in Washington D.C., in many ways, unfortunately, has a lot to do with whether or not there's going to be a hospital in Seneca. It's called Medicare. So, whether or not the Medicare reimbursement is sufficient to cover the cost in many ways determines whether or not our hospitals are able to make it. In addition to that, Washington D.C., an agency called CMS, has the habit of expanding rules and regulations that are very costly and don't really change the quality of healthcare at this, or other hospitals, in our state.”
Moran said a key focus of his visit was to see how federal regulations are impacting the operations of the Seneca-based hospital. “One of the things that I want to accomplish here is make certain I understand what regulations this hospital is facing that we can help to try to provide some common sense as they're developed in our nation's capital. Just an important issue for Kansans and Washington D.C. has a role, so I'm here to get an education.”
The Kansas Republican met with hospital administration and staff, while gaining a first hand view of the services provided by the not-for-profit critical access facility.
