(KNZA)--A Texas man required extrication, and helicopter transport for treatment, after his pick-up truck collided with a semi in a late Wednesday morning Jackson County crash.
Sheriff Tim Morse says it happened on U.S. Highway 75 at 178th Road, six miles south of Holton, shortly before 10:00.
34-year-old Trent DeLeon, of Crawford, Texas, was driving his pick-up northbound on Highway 75 when he struck the rear end of the semi-truck and trailer as it was turning west at 178th Road, in an attempt to make a u-turn.
Morse says his department was joined by the Mayetta, Hoyt and Potawatomi Tribal Fire Departments, along with Jackson County EMS, in extricating DeLeon from the wreckage.
He was then flown by Lifestar Air Ambulance to Topeka's Stormont-Vail for treatment of his injuries. Morse says DeLeon was alert, and oriented, at the time of the extrication.
The driver of the semi, from Lincoln, Nebraska, was not hurt.
The Kansas Highway Patrol is overseeing the investigation and says both drivers were buckled up at the time of the wreck.
