(KNZA)--A Hiawatha Halloween tradition returns this year, following monetary support from the East Hills Shopping Mall in Saint Joseph, Missouri.
The funds will allow local youth to paint the windows of Hiawatha businesses with Halloween-themed artwork which, until several years ago, was a long standing tradition of the Halloween season.
Now, as Hiawatha heads to the 100th anniversary of the Halloween Frolic, known as the longest running continuous Halloween parade in the nation, 4th through 9th graders will again paint the windows in conjunction with the event.
Halloween Committee Chair Beth Mikita says Hiawatha businesses are being called upon to allow their windows to be used as canvases for the artwork, which will be overseen by the committee, and organized in part by Hiawatha Elementary Art Teacher Kate Miller.
