(KTNC)-- Construction is not complete yet, but a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held this week for Falls City's newest museum.
The Falter Museum, which will display the works of 20th century artist John Philip Falter, will be located at the corner of 17th and Stone Street in downtown Falls City. A ceremony is planned at the museum at 4:30 Wednesday afternoon. Dobey Falter Haws has been leading the effort to locate the museum in Falls City and says several people will give remarks during the ceremony including keynote speaker, Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman.
Other speakers include Steve Kottich, representing the Richardson Foundation; Sandy Hartman with the Library and Community Foundation; Deb Arenz of the Nebraska State Historical Society; and Mitch Glaeser.
The ceremony will also include music Falls City Public and Sacred Heart students.
People will not be able to go inside the museum, as construction work is ongoing. Dobey says they had a construction meeting last week and they hope to have work wrapped up in time for the Falls City Christmas window opening on November 28th.
The museum will include various Falter artwork and artifacts. The highlight will be the studio that was in John Falter's Philadelphia home at the time of his death. Falter's widow donated the studio to the Nebraska Historical Society and it's been housed in Lincoln since. The Historical Society has agreed to loan the studio to the Falls City museum.
John Falter is well known for his Saturday Evening Post covers – he illustrated 129 covers. The Falter Museum Committee has been giving people a chance to “adopt a Falter cover” to be framed and displayed in the museum for a $200 donation.
Haws says there are only about 15 covers remaining and anyone interested in adopting one can inquire at the Falls City Library and Arts Center.
