(MSC News)--The proposal outlined in the latest press release from the re-elect Randy Garber campaign is not an option.
The statement, citing the Republican Parties of Brown and Nemaha Counties, calls on the radio stations of KNZA and KMZA to hold live, on-air debates later this month.
However, the stations have already scheduled numerous hours devoted to both Garber and his Democratic challenger in the 62nd Kansas District race, Steve Lukert, to answer questions submitted by area voters.
The press release, issued Monday, October 13th, comes after Garber agreed to participate in the the radio station forum, and was issued publicly despite no previous discussion with the radio stations, owned by KNZA, Inc., regarding a debate.
“This is the first time we had heard from the Garber campaign of holding such a debate,” News Director Brian Hagen tells MSC News. “They issued the press release after agreeing to our on air forum, which we are moving forward with. There are too many logistics involved in making their request a reality, and, at this stage in the campaign, it's simply not an option.”
The public is encouraged to continue sending their questions, which will be answered by both candidates, to kansasvotes@gmail.com. Questions have also been submitted by U.S. Mail, with the deadline set for noon Tuesday.
The answers will begin to be broadcast, throughout the day, on October 19th and will run through November 3rd.
