(KAIR)--The sentencing date for a former Atchison based truancy officer convicted of unlawful sexual relations with a student was continued for the final time Monday afternoon.
According to Atchison County Attorney Jerry Kuckleman, the continuance was granted to allow defense attorneys for 29-year-old Heather Robinson more time to consult with a doctor they plan to utilize during the sentencing phase of the trial.
Judge Martin Asher set a new sentencing date for November 10th, and stated that the continuance would be the last one granted.
Robinson had earlier pleaded no contest to two counts of unlawful sexual relations. In exchange for the plea, nine other counts of unlawful sexual relations were dropped.
Robinson was arrested May 30th after an investigation by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation revealed that she had had sexual relations with a 17-year-old student. Although the relationship was consensual, state statute prohibits someone in her capacity from engaging in such a relationship.
