Busy Local Election Day Tuesday in Southeast Nebraska

(KLZA)-- The General Election is Tuesday.  In Nebraska polls are open from 8 a-m until 8 p-m.  In Missouri polls are open 7 a-m until 7 p-m. 

There are a number of contested local elections in the area.

In Richardson County there is a contested race for Mayor of Falls City between Jerry Oliver and Charlie Bentley. There is also a contested race for  Ward III Council in Falls City between incumbent Kirby Robidoux and challenger John Vaughn.

There are two write-in campaigns for Council seats in Falls City.  In Ward II James Liming has filed as a write-in candidate to challenge incumbent Judy Murphy. In Ward I Don Ferguson has filed as a write-in candidate for Council.  No one else is seeking the position. 

Three people will be elected to 4-year positions on the Falls City School Board.  Candidates are John Martin, Scott Huppert, Randy Sickel, Richard Malcolm and Terry Lotter.  Two people are seeking a 2-year term on the District 56 Board.  Tedd Gilkerson and June Bowers have filed to run for the seat. 

There are contested races for the Village Boards in Salem, Rulo, Dawson and Stella in Richardson County; Table Rock in Pawnee County and Crab Orchard and Cook in Johnson County. 

There are a number of other contested school board races in the area.

HTRS School District Patrons will elect three board members from four candidates seeking election.  The four are Neal Kanel, Scott Ogle, Steven Schaardt and Todd Binder.

Seeking three seats on the District 23, Johnson-Brock School Board are Darren Oestmann, Keith Bohling, Chester Bohling and Paul Moerer. 

Johnson County Central School Board is electing three members. Running for the seats are Andrea Eggleston,  Kim Wellensiek, Susan Borcher, Greg Hunzeker and Vernon Kettelhake. 

Lewiston School District patrons elect three Board members from candidates Larry Husa, Jeffrey E. Bacon, Dylan Little, Dennis Schuster and Aaron Rule. 

Six people are seeking the three seats open on the Auburn School Board, they are Beth Kernes Krause Ryan Jones, Laura Osborne, Lynsey Schmidt, Denise Licktieg and Billy Chapin. 

Other contested elections on Tuesday include: 

Auburn Mayor – incumbent Scott Kudrna challenged by Chuck Knipe.

City of Tecumseh Mayor – incumbent, William ( Bill) Kontz Sr. challenged by Lavern Bartels. 

Tecumseh  Ward I Council – Kimberly Jansen,  Sarah Williamson;

Tecumseh Airport Authority – Robert Sullivan;  Phillip Juilfs.

Four names will appear on the ballot for two Pawnee City Council positions that are open.  Charlie Hatfield, John Wissler, Mark Sunneberg Jr. and Gale Nutter will appear on the ballot.  Nutter has announced that he will not serve if elected.

Peru City Council, East Ward – Alex Coatney and Janet Hope.

There are two Commission races in Johnson County.  

District 1: Incumbent Scotty Gottula – Rep. Challenged by John Rademacher – Dem. 

District 3 – Incument - Terry Keebler – Rep.  Challenged by Les Agena – Dem. 

Pawnee County has one contested Commissioners race, Kay Laun ( Rep) is on the ballot in District Two.  Ronald Seitz is seeking the position as a write-in candidate.

Statewide election results from the Nebraska News Network will air on both stations at 10 past the hour and 40 minutes past the hour beginning at 8:10 p-m.
