Heartland Cuts Jobs, $20 Million in Costs
11/05/2014

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (AP) - Heartland Health and Mosaic Life Care of St. Joseph plans to reduce costs by $20 million, affecting about 50 jobs.

The medical group said Tuesday the 50 jobs affected will include many positions that are already unfilled. Other affected workers will be moved to different positions while about 15 filled positions will be eliminated. Some of the changes could take effect this week.

The St. Joseph News-Press reports that the plan includes consolidating some patient services, such as surgery suites. More operational changes are expected during the next two months.

A Heartland spokeswoman says the changes are the result of changes in health care that is emphasizing preventative care, which has reduced the need for hospitalization and increased need for outpatient and primary care services.
