Doniphan Co Receives Noxious Weed Proposal
11/07/2014

(KNZA)--Doniphan County Commissioners are considering the possibility of contracting  noxious weed control responsibilities in the county.

Craig Jeschke, representing Weed Free Lawns of Robinson, presented a proposal to County Commissioners this week.

Longtime Noxious Weed Director Phil Berger resigned effective October 31st, and the county is currently accepting applications to fill the position.

Commissioner’s took no action on Jeschke’s proposal.  Commissioner Terry Horner said the commission will probably wait until at least January when the new 1st District commissioner takes office so he can provide some input.

In other business, the Commission discussed options for temporarily repairing a bridge at the intersection of Mineral Point and 210th Roads, north of Troy.

The bridge was closed October 20th by the Kansas Department of Transportation due to deficiencies with the structure.

Road Superintendent Bob Edie outlined three options to allow the adjoining landowner access to his crop land and livestock.

The commission took no action pending a review of the structure by Husker Steel to determine the cost of having the company shore up the bridge versus the county road department doing the work.
