(KNZA)--An arrest has been made in connection with two Hiawatha business burglaries and an attempted burglary.
Police Chief John Defore says 18-year-old Dalton Herwig, of Hiawatha was arrested Tuesday afternoon in connection with burglaries early Sunday morning at Davies Oil and Nigus Liquor along with an attempted burglary at Henry Liquor. He says two Hiawatha juveniles also face charges in connection with the crimes.
Defore says the arrest followed an investigation by Hiawatha Police Investigator Mickey Gruber and citizens tips. He says the police department obtained surveillance video from one of the businesses and DNA from the crime scene.
Defore says the police department would like to thank the community for all the tips which aided in the speedy resolve of the investigation.
Taken in the break-ins was an undisclosed amount of merchandise. Defore says entrance was gained to the businesses by throwing bricks through windows.
Herwig remains in the Brown County Jail.
