(KAIR)--Patrons of the Effingham Community Library are now able to take advantage of new service.
According to a release from the library, they will begin lending out portable WiFi Hotspot devices to patrons who may want to expand the library's internet access starting the week of December 15th. The program is part of a pilot program started by the State Library of Kansas, in a partnership with the New York Public Library and the Knight Foundation.
State Librarian Jo Budler says that with so many people relying on library internet access for important tasks such as homework help and job hunting, the need for expanded internet access is more important that ever, and the project has the potential to provide that access to those who may be limited by the library's operating hours.
Patrons can check out a hotspot device at the library, located at 414 Main Street, through November 2015 for a lending period of seven days. For now, they can only be checked out when the Director is present, as special instructions need to be given. You must be at least eighteen years old to check out the device. Borrowers are also required to fill out a customer survey to help the State Library decide if the program has the potential to expand to more libraries.
