(KMZA)--Funds are being raised to help pay for a permanent roof on the fair pavilion building at Onaga.
Built in 1921, many know the building as the old sale barn. Individuals and groups have been using the partially restored round portion, which also holds part of the exhibits during the county fair. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and on the Kansas Historic Places list.
In 2001, a group was formed known as the “Friends of the Fair Pavilion”. It has been working to restore the building to a fully functioning building for community use. The Fair Pavilion is designated a 501c(3) by the Internal Revenue Service.
Financial help is needed to put a permanent roof on the building as the temporary roof is starting to leak. The original grant was not sufficient to cover the cost, bid for nearly $48,000 for the round part of the building and nearly $65,000 for the north wing. The work will be re-bid, when there's enough money to pay for the roof.
Financial contributions can be sent to Friends of the Fair Pavilion, 220 S. Leonard St.,Onaga, Kansas 66521.
