(KMZA)--Students from five schools participated in the Nemaha County Spelling Bee Saturday at the Nemaha County Courthouse in Seneca.
Capturing first place by correctly spelling the word Frankenstein was Alexis Edelman, an 8th grader from the F.A.S.T Home School group.
Taking second place was Megan Deters, an 8th grader at the Nemaha Central Middle School.
The event was sponsored by the Alpha Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, which is comprised of key women educators.
Deters and Edelman will now advance to the Topeka Capital Journal Regional Spelling Bee on March 7th in Topeka.
The champion will win an all expense paid trip to Washington D.C. to the Scripps National Spelling Bee at the end of May.
