(KLZA)-- The Pawnee City Council has voted to change carriers for the City health insurance. CoOportunity Insurance has notified the City the company will be liquidating and at some point this spring will no longer be offering coverage.
During the City Council meeting Monday night the Council reviewed information from several companies offering health insurance coverage. The Council decided to stay with a plan offered through the Nebraska Association of County Officials. When the CoOportunity coverage stops, the City employees health insurance will be through United Healthcare.
The City pays 80 percent of the cots of the employee health insurance. The cost has been $4,653 per month but will increase to $6,142 monthly with United Healthcare.
The City has received the report back from the asbestos inspection from the Gaston property as 1138 G Street that was declared a nuisance. The company found asbestos in the floor tiles. The Council voted to move forward with having the asbestos removed at a cost of $1,100. It is likely the city will have the property razed since the deadline for the owner to abate the nuisance has passed.
City Councilman Charlie Hatfield provided information on how the City of Humboldt gets funding for street projects. The cost is generally assessed back to the property owner along the street. Hatfield will be attending a program offered by Olson Associates in February on funding for projects.
It was noted that due to the favorable weather, City crews had been our filling cracks in streets.
