USD 415 Could Take More than 200K Budget Hit
02/10/2015

(KNZA)--The Hiawatha school district will lose more than $57,000 in funding during the current school year as a result of an executive order signed last week by Governor Sam Brownback cutting funding for public schools by 1.5 percent as of March 7th.

Superintendent Penny Hargrove says that’s not the end of possible cuts to the district’s current operating budget.

She told the board of education Monday evening there’s a bill in the Senate ( SB 71) that would cut $39 million in  supplemental school funding.  If approved, Hargrove said it would mean a loss of more than $141,000 for the district.

Hargrove says that’s around $200,000 that school officials would have to cut in an already tight budget.

The board directed Hargrove to put together a list of possible budget reductions for their consideration.
