02/17/2015

(KLZA)-- The Mound City Board of Aldermen last week met with Renick Stuart, owner of Stuart Disposal who was present to discuss the sale of his trash disposal company and assignment of his City contract.

Stuart Disposal has contracted to provide residential trash service with the City of Mound City since 1968.  Rates have remained steady since 1994.  Stuart noted he was in negotiations with several buyers. He noted he would like whoever purchases the business to finish out the contract for this year at the same rate. The current contract ends July 1.

Council members had no issue with the proposal and asked Stuart to come back when he has more information.

Aldermen approved the appointment of Council member Robert Heck to represent Mound City on the Holt County EEZ Board.

Matt Stiens met with the Board about his concerns in the neighborhood of Frazer and High Streets.  Stiens reported there a coyote problem in the area and wanted to know where the city limit line is so he would not be shooting inside the City limits.

Stiens also brought up an ongoing issue with the creek near his residence.  He said that concrete placed in the creek by another property owner is changing the course of the waterway and said he is concerned water will back up onto his property.  Mayor Kris Krueger suggested Stiens discuss the matter with the Department of Natural Resources or the Corps of Engineers.  City Attorney Brian Tubbs said the water coming onto Stiens property would be a civil issue.

Alderman Robert Heck informed the Council that Hall Construction has submitted a quote of $1,800 to furnish and install a check valve inside the existing drainage tube from the Storm Sewer Inlet to Davis Creek. After much discussion, Heck was asked to find out more about other options and costs.

A liquor license application for Brad Sutton, who has purchase Quackers in Mound City was approved.

Aldermen also approved the reappointment of Larry Thomas to the Planning Commission for another 4-year term and Robert Gibson was appointed to the Board of Zoning Adjustment for a 5-year term.  Gibson will replace Glen Brown who asked the City to appoint someone else to his seat on the Board.

City Clerk Patsy Smith reported that a settlement check from a telecommunications class action lawsuit had been received from CenturyLink in the amount of $37,389.
