(KAIR)--Investigators are not ruling out arson as the possible cause of an early Thursday morning house fire in Effingham.
Atchison County Sheriff Jack Laurie reports the fire took place at the unoccupied residence located in the 700 block of Seabury Street around 5:00, and was mostly contained shortly before 6:00.
Laurie says until it can be ruled out, the fire is being investigated as a possible arson.
The Kansas State Fire Marshall is assisting with the investigation.
Fire crews from Lancaster, Effingham, and Huron all worked to battle the blaze.
