Congressman Adrian Smith Visits Falls City

(KLZA)-- Nebraska Third District Congressman Adrian Smith paid a visit to Falls City Tuesday afternoon. Smith, a native of Scotts Bluff County spent about an hour visiting with constituents about various topics ranging from healthcare to the farm bill, the EPA and pipelines.

Congressman Smith talked about his concerns about some efforts to change some aspects of the Farm Bill in the middle of the current bill. He noted efforts are being launched to cut back on some crop insurance, but said he plans to fight back on changing policies in the middle of the current bill.

Smith said that during his town hall meetings around the vast Third District Obamacare is the top concern raised but the EPA is another big concern. Smith said Congress did not intend for the EPA to regulate local waterways.

Nebraska’s Third Congressional District includes 75 of the states 93 counties and the boundaries are the Missouri River on the east and the Wyoming, Colorado and South Dakota state lines to the west and north. Smith says while it is not possible to be in every county every weekend, he believes through technology he is able to stay in touch with the people he represents in Washington.

While it was a sparse crowd on hand for the Congressman’s visit, local insurance agent Ted Godemann seemed to sum it up for most of those in attendance. Godeman said we just want to be left alone and realize that instead of big government solving our problems, it can be the problem.

Smith also noted he feels there is a need to simplify the tax code in the United States and that the U.S. needs to come up with good legislation concerning pipelines.  He said in Nebraska there is currently 8,000 miles of underground pipelines and when you take into consideration local pipelines that number is more like 20,000 miles.  He said some are going to need to be replaced in the near future and good policy on them is a must.
