(KNZA)--A Wednesday afternoon grass fire in Jackson County destroys two structures while damaging two others.

That word from Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse, who says county firefighters rushed to the rural Soldier scene of the blaze, located at 2385 198th Road around 1:00.

The property owner had been burning grass, but the fire went out of control, destroying a vacant home that had stood for more than a hundred years. A small shed was also destroyed, while another shed, and an occupied residence, both incurred damage.

The fire near the home was brought under control around 45-minutes after fire crews arrived, but the fire continued to burn in pastures south and west of the property, requiring firefighters to continue the effort to extinguish the flames.

No injuries have been reported.

The Soldier Fire Department was joined by those from Holton, Circleville and the Potawatomi Tribe to battle the blaze. The Jackson County Sheriff's Department and Jackson County EMS also provided assistance
