03/16/2015

(MSC News)--Special local area meet and greets by the President of the U.S. Highway 36 Association are planned this week, as Lee “Doc” Franklin visits Brown, Doniphan and Nemaha Counties.

The Oberlin, Kansas native was elected to the role last year.

Tuesday will take Franklin to Brown County's Hiawatha community, where he'll meet with residents at Gus' Restaurant from 5:30 to 7:30.

On Wednesday, he'll travel to Doniphan County, holding a morning meet and greet at Wathena's Rowdy Rosie's Diner from 8:30 until 10:30, followed by a visit at Troy's Feed Store Cafe from 11:30 to 1:30. Then it's on to the Troy Library and the Courthouse Square prior to a meeting with officials from Highland Community College.

On Thursday, Franklin's visit takes him to Nemaha County where he'll meet residents at Sabetha's Downtown Coffee Company from 8:30 to 9:45 and at Garrett's Country Mart from 10:00 to 10:30.

From there, he'll travel to Seneca's Cornerstone Coffee Haus for a meet and greet from 11:30 until 1:00.

Franklin plans to address two main topics during the visit: the 10th anniversary of the U.S. 36 Treasure Hunt, planned for September, and the launch of the first U.S. 36 magazine.

The U.S. Highway 36 Association has provided oversight of the travel route for 102 years.
