KS Conservatives To Protest Death Penalty
03/16/2015

(MSC News)--Being pro-life must be absolute and non-negotiable.

That's the word from Republican Kansas lawmaker Bill Sutton who will join with other conservative leaders Tuesday at the Kansas Statehouse in calling for an end to the death penalty.

The State Representative, from Gardner, is pushing a house bill that would replace the state's death penalty with a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Sutton calls the death penalty unnecessary and harmful to the state, saying it's a costly and ineffective government program at odds with core conservative values.

A press release issued regarding the rally also cites cases where individuals were wrongfully sentenced to death only to be found innocent later.

The rally, which begins at 12:30 Tuesday, is co-sponsored by the Kansas Coalition Against the Death Penalty and Conservatives Concerned About the Death Penalty.
