Security Upgrades Planned at Nemaha Central Schools
(KMZA)--Security upgrades are planned at Nemaha Central schools.
The Board of Education during a special meeting last week approved security upgrade proposals totaling just over $47,000.
They include the installation of security camera systems at both of the district’s schools. In addition, Superintendent Darrel Kohlman says video intercom systems and automatic locks will be installed at both schools’ front entrances. Included in the system are student and staff identification cards that will give access through other locked doors. The system can be programmed to control when and who is allowed to pass through the doors.
The security equipment will be installed this summer.
In other business, the Board decided to go with the purchase of a new school bus over a used bus.
Kohlman presented the board with a bid for a new bus from Midwest Bus Sales, of Bonner Springs, for nearly $88,000. At the previous meeting, he had presented a bid for a used 2013 bus with 25,000 miles for nearly $73,000. The board asked Kohlman to obtain a bid for a new bus for comparison purposes.
The Board approved the purchase of the new bus.
The district will keep 2008 bus they had planned to replace to use as a spare for activities.
