(KLZA)-- Dr. Arthur Maerlender with the Center for Brain, Biology and Behavior at the University of Nebraska will be the featured speaker Thursday evening at the Falls City Elk’s Lodge.
Nebraska sports celebrities, dignitaries and community members are uniting in an event entitles “Unite FORE Traumatic Brain Injury Awareness.”
A celebrity dinner and golf outing will be sponsored by the Tanner Shelby Merz Foundation and Community Medical Center Foundation.
Dr. Maerlender will speak during the Thursday evening program. Attending the dinner will be a host of former University of Nebraska Sports greats including Tommie Frazier, Jerry Murtaugh, Neil Smith and Maurtice Ivey along with WBO Lightweight World Champion Terence “Bud” Crawford from Omaha.
In addition, the fifth annual charity golf event will be held at the Falls City Golf Course Friday and will feature even more former Huskers including Steve Taylor and Keith Jones taking part.
Dr. Maerlender heads a group producing groundbreaking research in the field of traumatic brain injuries and expanding the understanding of brain function and its effects on human behavior.
The 1972 Heisman Trophy Johnny Rodgers won during his senior season for the Husker football team is on display at the Falls City Library and Arts Center. Thursday kids can attend “An Afternoon With the Heisman Trophy” sponsored by the Tanner Shelby Merz Foundation and Community Medical Center Foundation.
Johnny Rodgers will be meeting with kids and at 11:30 a-m he will be reading the book, “C Is For Cornhusker” to the kids. Immediately following, free autographed pictures with Johnny Rodgers and the Heisman Trophy will be taken.
