(KLZA)-- The Pawnee City, City Council is going forward on the condemnation process of the Christensen Nuisance Property at 923 8th Street. A two-story home sits on the property. The owner has not responded to correspondence concerning this property and the next step is a public hearing on the property. Further review is also taking place on a second Christensen property at 1042 G Street, which includes a mobile home on the site.
Council members also tabled a request from the Pawnee City Chamber of Commerce to close streets for the Harvest Bash event scheduled for October 10th in the downtown area. The Council wants to further review options. Comp time for salaried employees was also discussed. Council member John Dahlgren feels the comp time, if allowed for salaries employees should be used up during the year it is earned. The topic will receive more discussion at a future meeting.
Mayor Deb Klein did update the Council on the Helen Callam Charitable Trust funds naming the Pawnee City Housing Committee as beneficiary of approximately $55,000. After extensive review by City Attorney Joe Stehlik, the City will be able to use those funds toward housing cleanup projects.
Burt deKoning met with the Council to discuss a ditch on the west side of his property which is adjacent to the Pawnee City Library. He says the water from the trail built there and from the parking lot runs onto his property causing issues and he would like the City to do something about it. Council members will be viewing the site and discussing the issue during the July 13th council meeting.
An interlocal agreement on streets with Pawnee County on road maintenance was reviewed. Council members also discussed a letter form the Rotary Club concerning the center island flower project sponsored by the Rotary, which is ending after this year. They are looking for another organization to take over caring for the flowers in the median.
Favorable comment was given to the Pawnee County Ag Society special liquor license request during the Pawnee County Fair; Allowing Boy Scouts to scrape and paint picnic tables at the South Shelter in the North Park was also approved.
