(KLZA)-- Former Johnson County Central Spanish teacher Carrie Miller of Tecumseh has been sentence to a period of four to five years in prison, and must register as a sex offender for 15 years for having a year long sexual relationship with a 15-year old student.
Tuesday Miller was sentenced on charges for both Nemaha and Johnson counties by District Judge Daniel E. Bryan Jr.
In May Miller entered a no contest plea to pair of felony counts of child abuse and a misdemeanor charge of child abuse in Nemaha County District Court. In Johnson County Miller entered a no contest plea to a felony charge of child abuse and a misdemeanor charge of child abuse & neglect. In exchange for her pleas, prosecutors reduced some charges and dismissed others.
Judge Bryan sentenced Miller to 4-5 years incarceration at the Nebraska Department of Corrections on each of the Nemaha County felony charges. She will be eligible for parole after serving two years. These sentences will run concurrently with each other. On the misdemeanor charge Miller was sentenced to a year in the Nemaha County Jail. This sentence will be served in the Nebraska Department of Corrections concurrently with the felony counts.
In the Johnson County Miller was sentenced to 4-5 years in prison on the felony count and to a year in the Johnson County Jail on the misdemeanor charge. These sentences will be served concurrently with the Nemaha County charges.
In addition, Miller was ordered to pay court costs in Nemaha County of $1,233. In Johnson Count she was ordered to pay $165 in court costs.
The victim told authorities he and Miller had shared explicit photos of one another and started have sexual contact in October, 2013, mostly while parked at an abandoned farmstead in Nemaha County and at least on one occasion in Johnson County.
Under Nebraska law, people 19 and over cannot have sexual contact with people under the age of 16.
