(KNZA)--The Brown County Commission continues to work on a county budget for 2016.
The Commission Monday went through the budget requests received from county departments and organizations receiving funding from the county, trimming more than $300,000 from the requests while agreeing to provide additional funding to others.
County Clerk Debbie Parker informed Commissioners that the county’s assessed valuation is projected to increase nearly $14 million dollars for 2016. That means if the county maintains the same mill levy it will raise an additional more than $500,000.
The budget figures will be presented to Hiawatha CPA Jim Scherer who will draft a proposed budget for the Commission’s consideration.
Parker says a budget must be completed and adopted by August 26th.
