(KNZA)--The Brown County Commission is considering including funding in the 2016 county budget for the replacement of a bridge near the Nebraska state line damaged by flooding this spring.
The Commission decided Monday to obtain a cost estimate for the replacement of the bridge on 320th Road over Noharts Creek about five miles east of Reserve.
Commission Chairman Warren Ploeger said the bridge doesn’t qualify for federal funding assistance. Ploeger said he feels its more feasible to replace the 90-foot truss bridge than repair the structure.
In other business, Atchison-based DOVES Inc. Director Deb Duncan met with the Commission to provide an update on their activities and request a financial contribution for 2016.
Duncan said during the fiscal year ending June 30th, the organization provided domestic violence emergency services to 425 Brown County residents. She said in order for DOVES to continue to operate they need funding.
Ploeger said the Commission will take the request into consideration as they continue to work on the 2016 budget.
The county provided $2,000 to DOVES for 2015.
