Public Transportation now Available in Brown Co.
08/10/2015

(KNZA)--The Northeast Kansas Area Agency on Aging is now offering general public transportation for Brown County residents.

The Hiawatha-based agency received a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation and recently received a 2015 Dodge conversion van complete with wheelchair securement.

The transportation service will operate Monday through Friday from 8 to 5.  The service is open to all Brown County residents, regardless of age.

Appointments will be taken on a first come, first served basis. Riders will be taken to any location in Brown County including the local casinos and other locations such as, but not limited to, St. Joseph, Mo., Topeka and Kansas City. Trips within the Hiawatha city limits will be $2 each with additional stops $1 each. There is an extra fee for out of town appointments.

Bev Sunderman with the Area Agency on Aging says they recommend making the reservation as far in advance as possible as seating and availability are limited.

You can call Northeast Kansas Area Agency on Aging for more information and to make an appointment for transportation at (785) 742-7152.
