Accused Shooter Appears in Court

(KNZA)--An August 24th preliminary hearing has been set for a Falls City man accused of shooting another Falls City man last week.

34-year-old Desiderio Hernandez made his first appearance in Richardson County Court Friday where his bond was set at $1.5 million.

Hernandez is charged with the attempted first-degree murder of 31-year-old Joseph Debella Jr. during the early morning hours of August 5th at a residence on Morton Street in Falls City.

Police found Debella in the basement of the home suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.  He was flown to a Lincoln hospital, where at last report he was listed in critical condition.

Hernandez was arrested early August 6th following a nearly seven-hour standoff at a residence in the Brown County community of Horton.

Two other men have also been charged in the case.  29-year-old John Hall and 19-year-old Brett Winters are accused of tampering with evidence at the residence where the shooting occurred.
