(KNZA)--The Brown County Commission Monday approved for publication a proposed 2016 budget of nearly $9.8 million that calls for a slight decrease in the property tax levy.
The proposed budget contains an estimated tax rate of 36.946 mills, which is to generate $5.5 million.
Even though the budget contains about a .417 mill levy decrease, it will raise $447,000 more in tax revenue due to a nearly $14 million increase in the county’s assessed valuation.
The Commission will consider adoption of the budget following a public hearing at their August 24th meeting.
