(KLZA)-- The Nemaha Natural Resources District Board of Directors spent a portion of their August meeting time working finalizing expenditures and determining the necessary tax request for the Fiscal Year 2016 budget, which is due in September. It is anticipated the budget will be around $6.5-million with approximately $2.2-million coming from local taxes.
One of the factors in determining the budget is the Duck Creek Dam project in Nemaha County. The Board approved a bid of $383,047 from Midwest Underground Inc. from Lincoln to construct a bridge on a road impacted by the project. The NRD and Nemaha County are working together to relocate a road that would have been inundated with water because of the dam.
Two older bridges will be replaced by one new bridge and a concrete box culvert. A bid of $286,311 from JJK Construction of Lincoln was approved for the box culvert project.
The Board also approved a $25,000 contribution toward a special project with Klaus Hartmann for the construction of a dam in the Turkey Creek watershed. The total cost of the project is estimated at $100,000 with Hartmann paying the balance. This will be the 64th dam constructed throughout the Turkey Creek watershed to help with flood and erosion control.
